Religion and the War of 1812 in Upper Canada

The 41st Regiment of Foot Military Living History Group was pleased to present the sixth instalment in the popular 41st Regiment Lecture Series featuring Dr. Raymond Hobbs, academic, historian and re-enactor.

Dr. Hobbs is a retired Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament Interpretation, McMaster University.  Dr. Hobbs has a special interest in the relation of War and Religion; a subject on which he has published many writings. Dr. Hobbs has a passion for the history associated with the War of 1812 and is actively engaged in a number of research and writing projects including aspects of religion during the period of the war.  Ray Hobbs is a highly regarded member of the War of 1812 re-enacting community and has held the position of Chair and Field Commander for the 41st Regiment of Foot Military Living History Group until the conclusion of the 2007 season.

Ray spoke of the place for religion in the War of 1812, particularly as the conflict raged in Upper Canada. The lecture was held at the Iron Duke House at the Wellington Brewery in Guelph, Ontario located at 950 Woodlawn Road West on Friday, 30 November 2007.

The 41st Regiment of Foot MLHG is a group of individuals who re-create the 41st Regiment, as it was when it served in Canada during the War of 1812. The 41st Regiment of Foot MLHG re-enacts at War of 1812 events, supports historic sites and museums, does educational outreach programs and conducts historical research on an ongoing basis.
