PREFACE
THE following proceedings are submitted to the public, for the
purpose of removing the unfounded imputations to which Lieutenant Bender's character
has been so long exposed. Many of his countrymen may have heard of the Charges
exhibited against him, without ever having been made acquainted with the grounds
of his acquittal. The history of his case will be found in the following memorial,
presented by him to his Excellency Sir George Prevost, for the purpose of obtaining
a trial.
